the 3 best fuji lenses for portraits?
Are you curious about camera lenses? I today tried out three different lenses on my Fuji X-T5 camera: the FUJINON XF50mmF1.0 R WR, the FUJINON XF56mmF1.2 R WR, and the VILTROX AF 75/1.2 XF PRO Series.
The XF50mmF1.0 R WR is an older, heavier lens with a large diameter. It costs around 1.599,- Euro. The XF56mmF1.2 R WR is newer, lighter, and smaller, with a price tag of 1.199,- Euro. The VILTROX AF 75/1.2 XF PRO Series lens is in the middle in weight and size, but it is much cheaper at 599,- Euro.
I tested these lenses by taking photos of a Coke can outside at close range, focusing on the barcode. All images were taken with the same settings for consistency. Of course that´s not a super scientific approach. But I think it´s a good real world usecase for your work!
I captured all photos with the following parameters:
- ISO 250
- Aperture as wide open as possible
- Exposure time set by camera
- Exposure compensation +1
-Negative Pro Std. Film Simulation with no changes
-Lightroom
-no edit at all
-exported full size 100% as a JPEG
I was primarily interested in the sharpness in the centre of the photos, the sharpness falloff, and the bokeh (blurred background). I found that the VILTROX and 56mm lenses produced very similar results, making it difficult to choose between them. The 50mm lens had a unique, "Noctilux" style that I loved, but it did show some colour fringing on the can.
Have a look at the images and think about, which lense is which one?!
I plan to continue testing these lenses in different real-world scenarios, so stay tuned by subscribing to my newsletter!
